Job Description:

Overview

The Public Works Technician III - Concrete is responsible for performing skilled work in carpentry and maintenance of City streets, with curbs & gutters, sidewalks, repair or reset concrete drainage infrastructure, maintenance and repair with bridge guardrail, and crash cushion, operates various street maintenance light equipment in effort to meet the yearly goal of street maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

* Obeying all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment and follow all city policies. Perform daily pre/post trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles

* Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide. Direct traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades. Set up message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, III barricade during normal and emergency operations

* Work closely with Street Operations Management, Street Engineers in assisting with survey of selected areas

* Oversees projects and assists with communication between staff, contractors, customers, and other city departments

* Operates various street construction/ maintenance equipment, conduct concrete finishing for curb & gutter, flat work, investigate customer complaints, grade roadside ditches, call for line locations, collect various types of statements and incident reports

* Ability to lead a team if needed

* Keep materials stocked in vehicles, communicate when supply/ material are low

* Ability to work in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/ or elevated conditions. Must be able to evaluate safe work conditions

* Ability to lead Public Works Technician I & Public Works Technician IIs

* Able to communicate with internal and external customers

* Ensure proper communication with the Foreman, Work Coordinator, Planner/ Scheduler, and Assistant Director

* Complete daily reports and work orders; must be legible

* May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

* Non-Exempt - Full-Time

* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Qualifications

* High School Diploma / GED

* Four (4) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

* Candidate must register with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

* Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) -Class A with Air Brake endorsement

* A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within six (6) months of hire

* Traffic Control & Flagging certification

* Confined Space certification

* Trenching & Shoring certification

Required withing one (1) year of hire

* City Leadership Program

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
