White Plains Hospital Job DescriptionTitle:Pulmonary Function Technologist- Outpatient Job Code: 500571Department/Location:Pulmonary Function LabCAMS 7th Floor Non- Invasive Testing FLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports to: Technical Director,RespiratoryPosition SummaryThe Pulmonary Function Technologist provides non-invasive testing of patient lung function as it relates to size, airway resistance, diffusion capacities and exhaled Nitric Oxide levels. Also measured are responses to bronchodilators, antagonistic medications as well as exercise induced airway reactivity. Oxygen Oximetry with exercise, and Overnight O2 measurements are also provided.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
  • Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of accepted standards, policies, procedures, staff responsibilities and instrumentation related to provision of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the calibration and operation of laboratory equipment and performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in patient assessment, clinical aerosol delivery and emergency management procedures related to performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
  • Provides appropriate instruction/education to patients, family members and physicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Education & Experience Requirements
      • Associate degree or equivalent in respiratory care as recognized by the New York State Board for Respiratory Therapy
      • Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRT) or Registered Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
      • CPFT or RPFT specialty credential preferred.
      • Computer competency, including basic understanding of, and ability to work with, Microsoft Windows based pulmonary function software programs
      • Must hold a current American Heart Association BLS thru the American Heart Association
      • ACLS thru the American Heart Association is strongly recommended

Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
        • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
