Applicant must have a class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement and have been a school bus driver in the State of Nebraska for a minimum of 3 years.Education Level: Have minimum education of high school or GED. Technical school college preferredCertification: Maintain a valid Class B Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) with P and S Endorsements at all times. Allowing either license to lapse will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination.Desired Experience: Minimum three years driving experience as school bus driver in the State of Nebraska and related managerial or supervisory experience, valid Nebraska driver's license, valid Nebraska (minimum Class B ) Commercial Drivers License with passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement, and no air brake restriction, good driving record, capacity to work well with children, adults and transportation employees. Must possess good people skills. Extensive knowledge of the city, school location and traffic patterns.Other Requirements: 18 years or older, physical agility as per essential functions of the job descriptionJob Duties:The Transportation Trainer is responsible for providing specific training to all drivers required to obtain a commercial driver's license, school bus permit, as well as transportation Para educators for Lincoln Public Schools. A general highlight of job duties is listed below:
  • Training all bus drivers in accordance with state and local standards so they can qualify for a Nebraska Class B School Bus Driving Permit and Commercial Driver's License.
  • Train all Transportation Para Educators in various procedures to include, but not limited to the following: Proper loading and unloading of students to and from the bus, securing students in the seats by use of seatbelts, various restraint systems, including booster seats, car seats, and 4 point wheel chair restraint systems with lap and shoulder belts.
  • Training all other LPS employees in the operation of various other vehicles and equipment.
  • Training employees in the use of fire extinguishers use; correct lifting/bending techniques; and other safety procedures.
  • Must have the ability to provide the Level One and Two training as mandated by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) and the Nebraska Safety Center (NSC).
  • Additional Level One/Two Instructor requirements.
  • Staying current and knowledgeable in order to maintain the enforcement of current state transportation regulations and personal safety practice in the District.
  • MAy be asked to sub drive on pupil transportation routes
  • Training Process for Level 1 & 2 Certification: Level 1/2 instructors must complete the following process in order to receive certification to teach Level 1/2 courses.1. Review current course curriculum with a certified Level Instructor.2. The new instructor will team teach a minimum of one Level 1 and one Level 2 class with a certified Level Instructor. The new instructor will be expected to contribute to the delivery of lectures and evaluation of student performance using the established Level 1 and 2 curriculum.3. The supervising instructor will provide the Nebraska Safety Center with an evaluation of the proposed instructor's performance.4. If the proposed instructor's performance is deemed satisfactory, a provisional certification will be issued and the instructor will be able to schedule and teach Level classes.5. In order to receive a Pupil Transportation Instructor certification the new instructor must attend and complete new instructor training provided by the Nebraska Safety Center each June
  • Other training will include:
  • Training on driving trucks, vans, and other vehicles used by LPS maintenance, distribution center employees.
  • Other duties will include:
  • When not performing training functions will drive bus routes as assigned by transportation dispatcher
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Re-certification Standards The Level 1/2 Instructor certification may be renewed every (3) years if the instructor:1. Teaches a minimum of two Level 1/2 courses every 12 months beginning on July 1.2. Completes the annual school bus Level 1/2 instructor refresher program conducted by the NSC.3. Participates in instructor evaluations with each class.4. Cooperates in post-class administrative activities.5. Has instructional activity free of behavior offensive to students.6. Provide documentation of acceptable DMV record. 7. Complete a minimum of 3 CEU* every three years. Instructor Requirements 1. By July 1 provide an annual teaching schedule to the NSC for the following academic year.2. Instructor uses NDE required curriculum topics. (Any materials other that those provided by the NSC must be approved by the NSC prior to use in class.)3. Instructor completes minimum class time. (Level I 11 hours, Level II 3 hours)4. Instructor completes required class registration paperwork and sends to the NSC in a timely manner.5. Instructor cooperates in required evaluations and responses to evaluations.6. Instructor attends annual trainer refresher meeting with NSC.Work Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM Monday-Friday (Hours may vary due to route vacancies and or training needs)Hourly Rate: $27.59 plus benefits (260 days)Job Description: Pupil Transportation Trainer
