Job Description:
St.James Parish Government is hiring for the position of Purchasing Clerk in theFinance Department.Salaryis dependent upon qualifications.This position is non-safety sensitive, and isclassified as non-essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters.Normally works a 40 hourwork week. ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepares, reviews, and tracks purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Issues purchase orders and supplies from inventory on a daily basis.
  • Prepares and files purchasing related documentation.
  • Assists warehouse clerk with inventory orders.
  • Utilizes organizational skills and multi-tasking.
  • Performs related work when required.
Reasonable accommodations will be made toenable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION AND/OREXPERIENCE: High schoolgraduation or its equivalent plus two (2) years experience in clerical work,(business school may be substituted equally for up to one (1) year's workexperience). Mustpossess a valid Louisiana driver'slicense (class E) and have an acceptable driving record. Must have workingknowledge of a personal computer and all other standard officeequipment/machinery. Must have knowledgein basic record keeping in the maintenance of office filing system. Must have advanced typing skills.CERTIFICATES,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a validLouisiana driver's license (class E) and have an acceptable driving record.MATHEMATICALSKILLS: Ability to add,subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals. Abilityto compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.OTHER SKILLS ANDABILITIES: To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software;Internet software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Excel andMicrosoft Word software.REASONINGABILITY: Ability to applycommon sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written,oral, or diagram form. Ability to dealwith problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICALDEMANDS: The physical demandsdescribed here are representative of those that must be met by an employee tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this job.
