Job Description:

A purchasing manager in manufacturing is responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies to ensure a reliable supply of goods and services, while optimizing costs and maintaining quality standards. Their duties include:

  • Evaluating suppliers
  • Purchasing managers evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed. They may also visit suppliers' plants and distribution centers to learn about their products and services.
  • Negotiating contracts
  • Purchasing managers negotiate contracts with suppliers on behalf of their organization. They may also work out agreements with suppliers on when products will be delivered.
  • Managing inventory
  • Purchasing managers analyze demand patterns and forecast future needs to avoid shortages or excesses. They also maintain records of items bought, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories.
  • Developing procurement policies
  • Purchasing managers develop and implement instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
  • Collaborating with other departments
  • Purchasing managers collaborate with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, and products.
  • Resolving grievances
  • Purchasing managers resolve grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7 years of experience in materials or purchasing
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered
  • Experience negotiating contracts in a cost competitive environment
  • Experience with Domestic and foreign supply chains
  • Experience in the electronics industry is strongly preferred
