The Purchasing Manager reports to the Vice President of Operations and his/her primary focus will include procurement and storage of materials to meet Chemical Feed's objectives and customer requirements. This position is responsible for directing and administering the Purchasing, Inventory Control, and Material departments.
This position is based at Chemical Feed's Vineland, New Jersey facility.
Essential Job Functions
* Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time availability of materials to project requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
* Establish procedures and supervise the annual physical inventory, including tallying and valuing of the year-end physical inventory.
* Oversee the purchasing and/or contracting of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the operation of Chemical Feed, in addition to all inventory items.
* Investigate and solve problems resulting from material shortages.
* Establish and maintain purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair and ethical relationships with vendors. Keep informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
* Responsible for exploring for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery.
* Keep abreast of materials markets and materials pricing trends that affect Chemical Feed products.
* Work with the Applications Engineering department to give them the best available costing.
* Uphold the maintenance of reporting systems that relate to the materials function.
* Ensure that standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all Materials department functions.
* Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* College degree or equivalent experience in a management-related field.
* Organizational and planning skills.
* Strong verbal and written communications skills.
* Ability to manage multiple activities at the same time.
* Excellent computer skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Physical Demands
* Ability to sit for long periods of time.
* Physical ability to perform work in a standing, stooping, sitting, or bending position for extended periods of time.
* Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
* Ability to look at computer monitors for much of the workday.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Microsoft Dynamics software or with a similar mid-tier ERP package.
