Job Description
Required: metrology tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, bore gauges, dial indicator
Must have at least 5 years experience with dimensional incoming inspection
Experience in reading and understanding mechanical drawings
Experience in reading and following written procedures and work instructions
The key objective for a QA/QC Incoming Inspector is to examine incoming materials against specifications and/or inspection instructions set forth by the customer
Responsibilities/Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily, with or without accommodation. The employee must also be willing to demonstrate skills as necessary.
- Perform dimensional inspection of machined components, sheet metal parts, and plastic parts per mechanical drawing specifications and (when applicable) international standards
- Perform cosmetic inspection of anodized/coated parts per mechanical drawing specifications and (when applicable) international standards
- Inspect incoming materials quickly and accurately while meeting/exceeding minimum lot requirements each week
- Prioritize incoming jobs in alignment with business needs
- Keep a detailed log of incoming inspection results
- Transact materials in Thermo Fisher Scientific's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system
- Escalate quality findings/issues quickly to Supply Chain, Quality Management, and Operations
- Disposition nonconforming materials into MRB
- Provide inputs for process improvement for inspection accuracy and efficiency
- Perform work in accordance with internal procedures
- Support equipment/tooling calibration activities as necessary
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of experience in dimensional incoming inspection
- Must be proficient with the following metrology tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, bore gauges, dial indicator, etc.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
- Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: (a) can get along with co-workers, peers and upper management without exhibiting behavioral extremes; (b) perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and (c) respond appropriately to constructive criticism from a supervisor
- Computer and system application skills to efficiency and accurate transact information on inspected materials/lots as needed
- Competency with all Microsoft Office applications, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint
- Experience using ERP systems
- Ability to read and follow written procedures and work instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal contexts knowledge/experience in manufacturing processes
- Experience with CMM inspection is a plus
Education requirements:
- High school diploma required
- Associates degree in a related field is preferred, but not required
