R&P is looking for an individual who wants to join our team. We are a small-sized defense contractor providing Engineering, Logistics, Program Management and Technical Services to government clients. The Quality Assurance Assistant supports the QA team by helping oversee the Quality Management System (QMS), including certification to ISO 9001; 2015 and all projects and tasking. This position will help the Quality Assurance Manager establish, implement, maintain, and improve the policies, practices, and procedures necessary to ensure effective operations and assist the corporate team in achieving goals and objectives. This position also supports the occupational safety of R&P employees, especially for the shipbaord installation and reapir teams. Reporting to the Safety Manager, you will work independently focusing on the site's occupational safety while working on projects. You'll support health and safety while working with stakeholders at R&P to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Employment history and knowledge in maritime industry quality and safety standards are required.
Responsibilities

Communicate quality goals to help the teams achieve top performance - Support all team functions to drive continuous improvement
- Assist with planning and monitoring corrective actions, preventive actions, and improvement actions by collaborating with the QA team and verifying effectiveness
- Assist with monitoring customer satisfaction, performance metrics (KPIs), on-time delivery, and quality ratings
- Assist with managing risk assessments, analyzing trends, and reporting quality data to top management
- Assist with performing root cause analysis, resolving nonconformance's, and initiating corrective actions when required
- Assist the internal audit program and ISO certification audits
- Ensure efficient documentation of the QMS, procedures, and standards requirements
- Assist in evaluating and monitoring suppliers and service providers
- Facilitate any customer, supplier, government or regulatory audits or visits when needed
- Communicate effectively with customers and suppliers to rapidly resolve issues and achieve customer satisfaction
- Assist teams with overseeing, reviewing, and helping to maintain equipment calibrations and verifications, ensuring proper documentation of applicable periodicities
- Assist with regular safety reviews and walk throughs with teams as needed, verifying JSA/JHA's
- Assist with Shipboard project inspections to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Manage the onsite Occupational Safety Programs, including identification, evaluation, control and monitoring of workplace hazards.
- Communicate with leadership on activities in support of the Industrial group and changes in conditions, which could impact established hazard controls and production in general (e.g. quality, schedule, and budget).
- Assist coordination of safety briefings with project teams and subcontractors, addressing proposed activities, resources, and preparation for safe operations.
- Communicate effectively with regulators, and other external or third parties.
- Assist the onsite Industrial Manager or lead with the safe management of all activities, priorities, and risks.
- Review reports, testing results, and help provide remedies.
- Assist with identifying, reporting, and completion of accident/ incident reports and investigations.
- Assist with development and providing training to our teams when required
Key Skills
- Knowledgeable with shipboard design and layout, capable of recognizing risks and hazards associated with the maritime industry
- Attention to detail during project inspections, reviewing of appropriate documentation, and the ability to interpret drawings and understand specifications
- Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good communication skills, verbal and electronically with the ability to share complex information effectively with employees and all levels of site management.
- Team player with an improvement mindset
- Good with problem solving, identifying solutions and relaying information in a timely manner
- Experience with Industrial Safety and reporting;
- Experience with chemical management, ergonomics, air and noise monitoring, hazard analysis, incident investigations and exposure controls for hazards
- Knowledgeable in applicable Health and Safety regulations
- Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually as this position is performed with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision
- Efficient in time management, prioritizing tasks and projects, and possess exceptional organizational skills
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience on ships or in shipyards.
- Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant work experience on ships or in shipyards.
- 2 years experience in waterfront Quality Assurance or Safety is preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain access to U.S Military bases and shipyards for performance of job duties.
- Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- During shipboard and shop inspections the QA/ Safety assistant can potentially be exposed to varying temperatures and conditions. Must be able to physically access ships, small craft, and submarines. Frequently required to stand, sit, reach, bend, walk, and climb into and out of confined spaces, as well as climbing ladders and stairs.
