The QA Manager will ensure that all coating application processes meet stringent quality standards and customer specifications, while adhering to industry regulations and safety guidelines. This role will oversee surface preparation, coating application, and post-application inspections, ensuring that applied coatings meet performance, durability, and compliance criteria. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of protective coatings, plural component preferred, surface preparation, environmental controls, and testing methods, and will lead a team of quality inspectors and technicians to maintain excellence across all application projects. - Manage Quality Assurance for Coating Applications:
- Oversee surface preparation, coating application, and curing processes, ensuring strict adherence to quality standards.
- Ensure coatings are applied uniformly with the required thickness, durability, and appearance for various industrial projects (e.g., automotive, marine, aerospace, infrastructure).
- Monitor environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and ventilation to ensure optimal conditions during coating application.
- Implement and Oversee Quality Control Procedures:
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for coating application processes.
- Perform on-site inspections, testing cured coatings for adhesion, corrosion resistance, and other required performance standards.
- Ensure the use of calibrated and properly maintained equipment for consistent and high-quality application results.
- Regulatory and Standards Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as NACE, SSPC, ISO, and other relevant certifications and regulations (including VOC and environmental safety standards).
- Monitor and enforce OSHA safety guidelines to protect workers and ensure safe handling of hazardous materials during coating processes.
- Training and Development:
- Lead and train teams of coating technicians, inspectors, and application staff to maintain high standards of quality control and safety.
- Conduct audits and provide feedback on quality control practices and application techniques, recommending improvements when necessary.
- Supplier and Customer Relations:
- Work with raw material suppliers to ensure that all coatings meet company and customer specifications.
- Collaborate with customers to ensure that their quality requirements are met, addressing any concerns or non-conformance issues promptly and efficiently.
- Continuous Improvement and Reporting:
- Analyze quality control data, identify trends or potential areas for improvement, and lead initiatives to enhance application efficiency and quality.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and corrective actions, preparing reports for management and clients.
- Project Management:
- Oversee multiple projects to ensure deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Manage relationships with third-party contractors and ensure their adherence to quality standards for application work performed on-site.
Your Skills and Expertise:To ensure your success from day one in this role, Justrite requires the following qualifications at a minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience in industrial coatings or quality management.
- 5+ years of experience in quality assurance within the industrial coatings or protective coatings industry.
- Proven experience with the application of coatings across various industries (e.g., automotive, marine, aerospace, construction).
- NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Certification (Level 2, or 3) or SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) certification required.
- SSPC Certified Quality Control Supervisor (CQC), ISO 9001, or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification or equivalent safety training.
- In-depth knowledge of industrial coating materials, application methods (spray, brush, roll), and surface preparation techniques (blasting, priming).
- Familiarity with testing methods such as dry film thickness (DFT) measurement, adhesion testing, and environmental monitoring.
- Proficiency with quality control tools and reporting software.
- Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to train and mentor a team of technicians and inspectors.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, with attention to detail.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
- Experience in developing quality assurance programs and implementing corrective actions for coating failures.
- Knowledge of VOC regulations and environmental compliance in coatings application.
- Familiarity with automated or robotic coating systems is a plus.
Compensation:The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $90,000 to $115,000.Actual base salaries will vary and may be above or below the recommended pay range based on factors such as but not limited to location, relevant experience and performance.
