Position Overview
The Quality Control Supervisor in the Railway Ties division at Stella-Jones is responsible for ensuring product quality and compliance with company, customer, and industry standards across production operations. This QC role involves overseeing quality assurance processes, conducting audits, providing training on defect limitations and laboratory procedures, and collaborating with plant managers to drive continuous improvement and achieve quality objectives.
This is a newly created position and will be located onsite at our Fulton, Kentucky Railway Ties manufacturing plant. The role will also include significant travel in the US and Canada (expected to be 2 to 3 weeks per quarter).
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
* Ensure Stella-Jones QAM is adhered to at the production facilities
* Perform facility auditing for conformance with corporate requirements.
* Assist production departments in driving product quality.
* Perform troubleshooting and corrective actions for unforeseen quality issues.
* Assist with the implementation of process improvements.
* Ensure all preservative concentrations in work solutions are monitored on a regular basis to determine they are within specified company and industry standards.
* Ensure all calibrations are up to date and are within company and industry standards.
* Special project management
* Work closely with plant managers in providing information to optimize quality objectives.
Laboratory Operations:
* Perform laboratory procedures and methods adhering to multiple customer and industry specifications.
* Review laboratory operations and procedures at the facility level.
* Assist in assay work and disposition of aged inventory in the yard.
Training and Development:
* Provide training as it relates to specific specifications on defect limitations, awareness, product quality and procedures.
* Provide training as it relates to laboratory procedures and methods.
* Evaluate proficiency and knowledge of defect interpretations and quality concepts at production facilities.
Reporting and Documentation:
* Production of audit reports and maintenance of quality databases.
* Complete necessary daily, weekly, and monthly reporting to leadership regarding training, auditing and compliance results.
* Maintain accurate records of all training, audits, field and laboratory analysis, correspondence, specifications, research, or other documents.
* Assure a high degree of communication with regard to progress and conformance are maintained. Work closely with independent, government, company inspectors and corporate management.
Qualifications:
* Two (2) or more years of Treating and/or Quality experience in manufacturing environment
* Excellent computer skills, including MS Office, Excel, and Teams
* Self-motivated and able to operate independently
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Note: Must possess a valid passport and be able to travel to manufacturing plants in Canada as needed.
