Purpose: The purpose of this position is to define the core responsibilities and qualifications required to successfully fulfill the role of Quality Engineer. The primary focus is to ensure product quality through effective engineering practices and to drive continuous improvements.

Basic Function: The Quality Engineer is responsible for a variety of engineering assignments focused on facilitating the control and improvement of product quality, working closely with key stakeholders in the process.

Reporting Relationship: The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Manager.

Job Requirements:

Education:

• Preferred: High School/GED diploma or vocational school equivalent

• Preferred: Graduate of an engineering program or related 4-year degree

Experience:

• Required: 2 years of practical, related experience

Skills:

• Effective communication and listening skills with internal teams, external suppliers, and subcontractors

• Ability to write technical reports and business correspondence

• Strong analytical and organizational abilities

• Proficiency in advanced mathematics and statistics

• Computer literate

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

• Understanding of GD&T principles

• Knowledge of Process Capability (Cpk / Cp)

• Ability to apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) to inspections and manufacturing operations

• Familiarity with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and standard measuring equipment

• Understanding of precision machine shop production techniques and processes

• Ability to work with minimal supervision

• Knowledge of firearms is a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Apply knowledge of quality systems to develop and improve systems and products, ensuring compliance with internal, customer, and ISO 9001 requirements

• Collaborate with design, process engineering, manufacturing, sales, customer service, and purchasing teams to resolve issues related to customer complaints, product design, specifications, materials, tooling, and production affecting quality

• Develop and maintain quality control plans, incorporating statistical control, analysis, and reporting of results and trends

• Ensure conformity of purchased materials and components by maintaining and improving the quality program

• Establish quality procedures and guidelines for new products in collaboration with the engineering team

• Review current products and establish quality assurance procedures and associated documentation

• Establish and maintain inspection criteria and related documentation (inspection reports and procedures)

• Implement QA procedures during pre-production and production startup phases

• Work closely with production supervisors to maintain and communicate quality requirements

• Prepare necessary reports and maintain accurate records

• Perform internal audits and produce audit reports

Physical Demands: The physical demands of this role include occasional walking, operating machinery, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and moving around the work area. The incumbent will regularly stand, sit, talk, and listen, and frequently use hands to handle or touch objects. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires occasional lifting up to 35 pounds and frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, such as moving parts between material storage and the work area.
