Calex Manufacturing Inc., which was acquired by Murata Power Solutions in 2018, has been in business for more than 50 years, designing and manufacturing DC-DC power converters for automotive, transportation and industrial applications. In recent years, Calex has been developing products for emerging markets such as drones, autonomous driving, hybrid and electric vehicles, in addition to the legacy products.Calex is located in beautiful Northern California, approximately 50 miles north of San Jose and 30 miles east of San Francisco. Our corporate facility is in the city of Concord which is within easy commute distance of affordable housing, a rare trait for the Bay Area.Position SummaryThis position will direct and organize all inspection functions to meet production and customer delivery schedules. This position requires someone that is proactive and seeks support in advance as needed to meet critical time scheduling, customer requirements, and volume demands. They would also work well with many different team members and coordinate changing demands on time and priorities.Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection procedures to ensure quality levels of incoming materials. Work from blueprints, ECO's, or established operating procedures, and determine acceptability of incoming materials.
  • Demonstrate ability to use measuring instruments.
  • Understand, support, and practice the Calex Quality assurance policy as required by the ISO9001.
  • Maintain daily monitoring and reporting systems of rejected or discrepant materials, hazardous materials, chemical compounds, shortages, and problem PO's (see Quality and Productivity)
  • Inspect parts and perform dimensional inspections for Concord, as well as parts drop shipped from other MPS warehouses.
  • Complete first article inspections and standard dimensional inspections for fabricated parts, i.e. PC boards, baseplates, housings, connectors, etc. for Concord and for the other 3 warehouses that drop ship their parts to Concord.
  • Fill out First Article (FAI) forms based on the FAI findings.
  • Fill out the NCR form for discrepant parts and route and email to respective personnels.
  • Create MPS label for each part and each reel taking note that the correct manufacturer's lot code and date codes are reflected on each MPS label.
  • Coordinate with planner, buyers, QAs, engineers, sales, and receivers from other MPS locations about POs, rejections, inquiries, and other issues.
  • Maintain solderability test and cross section samples from PCB vendors for the current year and routing them to maintenance after year end.
  • Train other personnel as backup persons for incoming inspection.
Experience Required
  • Associates degree preferred
  • At least 2 years of receiving/inspection experience
  • Proficiency in electronic component inspection
  • Understanding of ESD hazards and safety guidelines and practices
  • Working knowledge of excel or similar spreadsheet software and Word or similar word processing software
Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to operate equipment and handle materials and parts. Occasionally required to detect odors, stoop, kneel and reach with hands and arms and to crouch, crawl, climb or balance. Must be able to frequently lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.Work EnvironmentWhile performing essential responsibilities, the employee regularly works near moving parts, is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and to toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasionally exposed to vibration and extreme heat.
