Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) designs, develops, and manufactures advanced composite components in order to help our customers push the frontiers of innovation. Our core strength is our ability to produce highly tailored, complex composite components. With our unique blend of products - including 3D woven structures, traditional and non-traditional 2D composite structures, and discrete through thickness reinforcement technologies, to name a few - AEC is able to produce composite components and products which meet performance and cost specifications often beyond the reach of metallic or conventional laminated composites.

The Quality Inspector Lead will support all aspects regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Team (SQDCT) of the assigned Quality area(s). The Quality Inspector Lead will lead, coach, and influence all direct employees affiliated with the Quality area(s). This position will interact with value streams in carrying out duties and responsibilities. This position reports directly to the Quality Supervisor in Boerne and will be responsible for providing day to day key direction and support on quality inspection processes.

Job Responsibilities

The scope of the duties includes current Quality Inspector job responsibilities and applies, but is not limited, to the following:

  • Put Safety first at all times. Observe, support, & contribute to Company safety programs, policies & initiatives.
  • Provide work direction to inspectors assigned to the Quality area(s), ensuring compliance to all contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide Quality testing and confirmation of incoming materials, in-process and finished products using visual, mechanical and chemical property measurement methods.
  • Provide inspection support to meet Manufacturing demands while effectively interfacing with supporting groups: Engineering, Program Management, Procurement and Facilities.
  • Ensure that all procedures are being followed and company policies are being implemented.
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives, auditors and Delegated source inspection personnel as required.
  • Ensure availability of inspection tools and lab equipment utilizing 5S toolkit for housekeeping and organization of the assigned Quality area(s).
  • Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in continuous improvements in Quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Responsible for assigned Quality area(s) SAP and other data entry transactions supporting Quality records and reports.

Position Competencies and Related Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Good leadership skills - communication, coordination, recognition, coaching, accountability
  • Good attention to detail, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Knowledge of all inspection methods, techniques, and related equipment.
  • Good math skills, mechanical aptitude, and ability to interpret drawings.
  • 20/20 vision either corrected or without correction
  • Ability to understand and follow training materials, technical drawings, and work/quality instructions.
  • Proper use of safety and personal protective equipment.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Excel, MS Word, SAP)
  • Ability to communicate in English via written and spoken words
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma methodology a plus.
  • High School or GED Equivalent Required.
  • Minimum 18+ months Quality inspection related experience.
  • SAP/MRP system experience considered a plus.

Working Conditions

Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures. Occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts. Ability to work 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations required. Travel may be required.

Physical requirements

Frequent repetitive hand movements, use of hand tools - pliers, sanders, scissors, etc.

Frequently remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time

Must be able to detect and recognize visual differences between materials or parts, etc.

Frequently moves molds and parts >25 lbs. between work tables and carts
