Job Description:
Position Title: Quality Manager Department: Quality Reports to Role: Site Leader Location: Spartanburg, SC Position Summary: The Quality Manager position will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability along with providing leadership, direction, and coaching for the quality team to address quality concerns throughout the business. The quality manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Quality Management System of the facility while assuring company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved, implementing quality control processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):
  • Oversee, maintain, and improve the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) to ISO 9001:2015.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international standards and legislation (i.e., Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), UKCA, Welder Certifications, etc).
  • Oversee product development to identify any deviations from quality standards.
  • Supervise technical staff in carrying out tests and quality checks.
  • Lead and mentor a team of quality assurance professionals.
  • Develop and maintain CPE Quality Strategy to include the minimum requirements of IATAF 16949 (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, Process Capability, MSA) as appropriate for each Value Stream of the facility.
  • Collaborate with managers and staff throughout the organization to ensure that the Quality Assurance system is functioning properly.
  • Partner with customers' auditors and/or third-party inspectors to ensure the execution of corrective actions meet customer specifications.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards and regulations.
  • Maintain the corrective/preventive action program, including receiving and reviewing responses, working with departments for timely completion, and administering periodic reports and metrics.
  • Provide monthly reports on problem areas (Pareto, Trend, and other methods) to senior and executive management for COPQ, Supplier Quality, etc.
  • Review all design and design changes to ensure documentation and controls are appropriate.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Review customer specifications and prepare required documentation to demonstrate the Company's compliance regarding those requirements (i.e., Inspection and Test Plans (ITP's), Vendor Data and Drawing Requirements (VDDR), etc.)
  • Work with Customer Service and Operations to assure customer requirements are included in the orders and requirements are met.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and customers regarding quality-related matters.
  • Work with the management team to effectively implement a continuous improvement environment throughout the organization.
  • Work with Operations and Human Resources to identify training needs for employees.
  • Perform Return Materials Analysis and Non-Conforming Material Analysis.
  • Promote quality achievement and performance improvement.
  • May be requested to travel 5-10% of time as required for customer complaints and supplier issues.
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field. Master's degree a plus.
  • Proven experience in quality management roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards and regulations (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.).
  • Experience in leading quality improvement projects and teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and outside professionals.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, have good negotiating skills, be able to lead a project to completion, and be a team player/team leader.
  • Proficiency in quality management software and tools.
  • Working knowledge of auditing, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, process control implementation (i.e. FEMA, Control Plans, MSA and Process Capabilities).
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Manager, Six Sigma) is a plus.
