Role and Responsibilities:
The Manager, Quality is responsible for designing and executing critical quality functions. These functions are cross-functional in nature and will work across the R&D, Supply Chain, and Marketing organizations. In addition, these functions are essential in enabling the company to execute its vision and serve customers with the highest quality products. This role will ensure that David executes efficiently, from raw materials to finished goods.
Quality Control & Assurance: Raw Materials Procurement
- Quality Standards: Define specification benchmarks for raw materials to allow for streamlined decision-making by Supply Chain function in its procurement efforts.
- Supplier Qualification: Develop a process for and conduct supplier qualifications to ensure raw materials specifications are met.
- Inspection and Audit: Regularly examine products and suppliers to identify defects or non-compliance with quality standards.
- Consistency and Error Minimization: Identify and correct deviations from quality standards to prevent defects from reaching consumers. Strive for uniformity and actively address deviations to prevent defects.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and corrective actions for accountability.
Quality Control & Assurance: Manufacturing
- Quality Standards: Define specification benchmarks for manufacturing performance and finished products.
- Inspection and Audit: Regularly examine products and suppliers to identify defects or non-compliance with quality standards.
- Testing and Evaluation: Conduct performance, functionality, and sensory assessments (such as taste, texture, and aroma) to validate product quality.
- Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of inspections, tests, and corrective actions for accountability.
- Continuous Improvement: Refine quality processes regularly to enhance standards.
- Process Design and Monitoring: Create and assess processes aligned with quality benchmarks for ongoing compliance.
- Training: Equip David and third-party personnel with the knowledge and skills needed for effective quality management.
Food Safety:
- Hazard Prevention: Work with suppliers to prevent biological, chemical, and physical contamination to protect consumer health.
- Handling Protocols: Work with suppliers to implement safe handling, preparation, and storage practices.
- HACCP System: Apply Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) protocols and similar systems to identify and control potential safety risks.
Regulatory and Compliance:
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and other relevant standards across all stages—from raw materials to finished product.
- Document Management: Organize and maintain all regulatory documentation of ingredients, manufacturing partners, and finished products for accurate tracking and accountability.
- Audit Support: Supporting auditing of new and existing facilities.
Practicalities:
- This is a full-time role based in New York City, but will require travel to our manufacturing sites and supply chain partners.
- Salary: $110 - $140k per year, inclusive of cash bonus based on attainment of company targets
