Quality Risk Management and Performance Improvement Specialist
Position Overview:
The Quality Risk Management and Performance Improvement Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of quality patient care, promoting safety, and reducing medical errors. This position is responsible for assisting with the identification, investigation, analysis, and management of risks within the organization. The specialist will focus on preventing or minimizing losses associated with identifiable risks, improving patient safety, and supporting performance improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes. This role requires expertise in risk management, quality improvement processes, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the planning, directing, and managing insurance and liability issues for staff, patients, and vendors.
* Coordinate risk management processes, including identifying, investigating, analyzing, and evaluating risks related to patient care and other organizational areas.
* Work closely with clinical teams to identify patterns of care events and areas where improvement is needed to reduce risks and enhance patient outcomes.
* Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement corrective actions to mitigate identified risks and improve overall performance.
* Analyze clinical data to identify trends and assist with the development of strategies to prevent medical errors and enhance patient safety.
* Monitor and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, Federal/State regulations, and industry best practices.
* Facilitate education and training programs for staff on risk management, safety, and quality improvement processes.
* Support performance improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing monitoring and improvement of care quality.
* Manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines to ensure timely resolution of risk management and performance improvement objectives.
* Prepare and present reports to leadership on risk management performance, trends, and corrective action plans.
* Promote a culture of safety and quality throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
* Required:
* Licensed RN required.
* BSN preferred.
* 3-5 years of experience in quality and/or risk management in a healthcare setting.
* In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission standards, Federal/State laws, and regulations.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
* Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
* High-level critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, graphics, presentation tools, and database programs.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
* Strong presentation skills.
* Preferred:
* Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and/or Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM).
* 10 years of experience in healthcare organizations, with 5 years in a managerial role.
* Acute care experience required; non-acute care experience preferred.
