As a part of the Quality organization, this individual will organize and schedule the daily activities of the inspection staff, ensuring that customer and AFL specifications are met and that cable testing is prioritized by customer ship date. The position will have administrative responsibility, preparing staff schedules based upon production demands, developing skills and coordinating the necessary training of staff, and reviewing, approving, and monitoring time and attendance of inspection staff. The individual selected must demonstrate strong growth potential and will support essential auditing, problem-solving, and continuous improvement activities. The position requires excellent organizational and people skills.Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of the process including the resolution of quality issues and the coordination of staffing and production
  • Assess daily production schedules and plan QC activities to ensure uninterrupted flow as well as fulfillment of customer delivery requirements.
  • Schedule and assign duties to provide ample QC coverage and support, including occasions of employee vacations and scheduled time off.
  • Support business plan objectives to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance safety.
  • Provide the necessary development, coaching, training, and disciplinary measures to ensure a responsible, effective staff.
  • Troubleshoot and intervene as needed to address and resolve disruptions as quickly as possible in order to maintain product flow.
  • Establish appropriate channels of feedback to inform upstream departments of defect escapes.
  • Drive accountability and timeliness in corrective action efforts to address these escapes.
  • Assigns corrective action and final disposition of nonconforming material, and follows up as necessary to ensure completion.
  • Develops and implements quality plans for work-in-process and finished product.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT). A factory acceptance test (FAT) is a test conducted at AFL, usually by a third-party, to verify that our product operates according to approved specifications and meets contractual specifications. To ensure a successful FAT, the Supervisor, must plan and prepare. This includes the identification and segregation of product to be tested, adjustment of associate work schedules to support the inspection, verification of all process and final inspection documentation prior to the FAT test, and provide oversight of the Final QC inspection process to verify it is completed per an approved Quality Test Plan. Upon completion of the FAT testing activities, a final results package is created by the Supervisor and distributed to all parties. This test package can include optical measurements, optical traces, dimensional measurements, mechanical values, vendor fiber data, material data certifications, COfC certificates, and calibration records.
  • Participate or lead cross-functional continuous improvement teams to address operational issues or improve business processes.
  • Support EHS by promptly addressing issues, maintaining high standards within the process, and participating in the factory's housekeeping / 5S audit program.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of working experience in manufacturing related industries.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Green-belt, CQE or equivalent certification is a plus
  • Quality-specific training (Six Sigma, ISO Lead Auditor, Problem-Solving, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience with quality database applications and analytical tools are preferred.
  • Training/expertise in quality system requirements and quality inspection/test practices preferred.
  • Leadership abilities and management potential to fairly and effectively manage and motivate employees to excel in their roles/duties.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems including current ISO 9001 standard.
  • Practical understanding of workplace 5S and lean manufacturing principles
  • Proficient user of MS Office
  • Able to support off-shift and/or weekend operations
