Your Job Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Quality Technician in the quality department for its Oriented Strand Board (OSB) facility located in Gladys, VA. This position is responsible for working to maintain quality of product and meet customer expectations, while also leading a production team as back-up for Team Leader. The Process Control Technician use initiative and attention to detail to ensure a quality product for our clients. Our Quality Technicians work 12-hr shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime and work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Our employees work in a tobacco free environment. Our Team Georgia-Pacific located in Gladys, Virginia manufactures Oriented Strand Board (OSB), a popular type of wood product used for flooring, walls, and roof sheathing in mostly residential construction applications.   • Perform daily quality control tests as outlined by Georgia-Pacific standards and American Plywood Association (APA) specifications including but not limited to: surface inspections, thickness tolerance checks, verification of flake geometry and flake moisture content, cross-panel density, internal bonding, parallel and perpendicular
  • Work with the Team Leader to resolve quality and/or production problems
  • Operate lab testing equipment, as well as heavy equipment and mobile equipment (i.e., forklift, manlift)
  • Become well-versed with all elements of production process
  • Lead a production team as back-up Team Leader
  • Load and unload various raw material
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with other team members in a team-based environment
  • Compose technical material including letters, reports and proposals
  • Work in high (up to 80 ft) and confined spaces for up to 12 hrs
  • Adhere to all safety/environmental rules and regulations, including necessary PPE
  • Perform tasks such as pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 70 lbs., as well as walking, climbing (including ladders and stairs), stooping, standing, and reaching for up to 12 hrs
  • Complete training to become CPR and First-Aid certified
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) High school diploma or GED Experience working in a manufacturing environment Experience using basic computer software What Will Put You Ahead Bachelor's Degree in Wood Science, Engineering, Technical or related Science field Experience leading a manufacturing team to meet desired goals and outputs Experience working knowledge of APA performance standards and polices for structural-use panels, production methods, tests and reporting procedures for quality control from receipt of raw materials to shipment of the finished product Experience with Statistical Process Control At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
