JOB PURPOSE:The purpose of the job is to perform component testing/inspection and calibration within the quality department. Quality Technician will be responsible for carrying out component testing complying with Smith & Wesson procedures. Timely and accurate completion of all related documentation is a key part of the role. Personnel will also ensure that inspection instruments and equipment are maintained and calibrated to a safe and compliant standard.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Facilitate calibration and routine daily/weekly instrument maintenance to ensure accuracy of results.Perform inspection of component parts using a variety of inspection and measurement tools such as optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, CMM and vision scope.Evaluate inspection results for compliance to specification.Perform First Article inspection of parts by interpreting drawings which include GD&T.Recognize problems that might affect the quality or integrity of the product and communicate problems.Identify Lean manufacturing opportunities for continuous process improvement and suggest alternatives and solutions to problems.Initiate changes to current Inspection Procedures.Train other QC technicians and/ or temporary technicians.Perform other duties assigned by management.QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Associates Degree in Technical or Engineering related field or ASQ CertificationProficient with computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel; GageTrak experience preferredFamiliarity with routine instrumentation, inspection and calibration of equipmentUnderstanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) a plusStrong knowledge of GD&TCNC knowledge a plusAbility to build solid working relationships that enhance collaboration and cooperation with others.Ability to prioritize daily/weekly work assignments to meet goals.Ability to multitask and pay attention to detailLANGUAGE SKILLS:Must have a good command of the English language and be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.COMPUTER SKILLS:Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, statistical tools and related softwarePHYSICAL DEMANDS:Standing, sitting, stooping and squatting can be expected along with lifting or with other means transfer of tooling, parts, containers and raw materials. Lifting requirement of 30 Lbs. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to focus.PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:Safety glasses with side shields when on factory floorThe use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwearAll employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasksMay be required depending on position:Annual vision update in Medical DepartmentInvolvement in the hearing conservation programInvolvement in the lead surveillance programWearing of safety certified shoes/bootsParticipation in the stretching programWORK ENVIRONMENTThe performance of this position normally requires exposure to typical manufacturing areas that under certain conditions may require the use of personal protective equipment such as Safety Glasses with Side Shields and hearing protection. .Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining.
