Wieland is hiring a Quality Technician. The Quality Technician will be responsible to ensure the quality and consistency of copper production by conducting accurate chemical and physical analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and final products. This role supports the mill's operational efficiency through timely testing, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to safety and environmental standards. The technician plays a key role in monitoring product quality, identifying potential issues, and collaborating with production teams to maintain high industry standards.

. This role is located in Pine Hall, N.C. and will be fully on-site.

Starting Pay: 17.14

Schedule: D Team (2-2-3 schedule 7 pm-7am)

Pay Schedule: bi-weekly

Responsibilities

Quality Technician Responsibilities:

    ISO & AS Certification and Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100 (or any other relevant standard) by supporting certification processes and internal and external audits.
    • Perform shop floor audits on a regularly basis to ensure compliance.
  • Sample Collection and Preparation
    • Collect raw material, process material, and final product for sampling.
    • Ensure proper labeling and documentation of samples.
    • Prepare samples for testing (i.e. cutting, grinding, polishing) from production, supplier, and/or customer.
  • Testing and Disposition
    • Perform chemical and physical tests (i.e. Spark Arc, Grain Size, OD, Wall, Tensile).
    • Creates disposition on WFS/SAP.
    • Assists on disposition of Non-Conforming (Red Tag) material.
  • Data Recording and Reporting
    • Record all test data accurately (i.e. WFS, SAP).
    • Prepare detailed reports of test results for quality and production teams.
    • Communicate findings, including deviations from expected results, in a timely manner.
  • Quality Control
    • Monitor the quality of material at various stages of production.
    • Ensure that products meet customer requirements, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist in troubleshooting production issues by analyzing product quality.
  • Safety
    • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of chemicals.
    • Stay updated on regulatory requirements for laboratory testing, safety, and environmental standards.
    • Participate in safety drills and routine inspections.
  • Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance
    • Ensure that laboratory equipment is well-maintained, cleaned, and equipment is calibrated.
    • Assist on equipment calibration.
    • Maintain an organized and well-stocked laboratory environment, including managing inventory for chemicals and supplies.
    • Assist in procuring new equipment or supplies as needed.
    • Set up, calibrate, and basic PM & troubleshoot on eddy current tester (rotary and stationary testers).
  • Collaboration
    • Work closely with production teams to adjust processes based on laboratory results.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to the production team.
    • Coordinate with external labs or auditors during inspections or quality assessments.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Contribute to improving laboratory procedures and testing methods.

Quality Technician Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • High school diploma required.
    • Good working knowledge of computers, Microsoft software [Excel, Teams, Outlook]
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Preferred:
    • 1-5 years of experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
    • 1-2 years of experience in quality.
    • SAP proficiency.
