Summary: The Quality Technician is responsible for investigating material issues that arise during manufacturing. This role supports internal customers with quality concerns, containment and replenishment of suspect material: evaluate suspect Returned Material and support the plant to meet key Metrics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain quality control documents and control procedures for incoming parts and materials as well as in-process products/components.
- Assist Supervisor and lines in the investigation of quality related problems involving analyzing, measuring suspect materials.
- Investigate and document proposals for quality improvements or enhancements that lead to an improved quality level of factory performance.
- Assist Supervisor and receiving inspection in the determination of usability or non-usability of non-conforming material at incoming inspection.
- Provides general technical support and training for production personnel as well as QC operators.
- Provides timely and quality services and support to all internal and external customers. Independently seeks and identifies problems and constraints affecting plant objectives.
- Develops creative and effective solutions for opportunities identified.
- Assists in upkeep of plant documentation systems ( tool and calibration logs, etc.)
- Work on other projects as assigned by the Supervisor, performing the necessary investigation and study to bring the projects to successful completion.
- Maintains an effective dialogue with all employees to foster good employee morale.
- Maintain all calibration equipment and required documentation.
- Files claims with UPS and FedEx for damaged and missing product
- Performs first article evaluations and works with line leads to get parts tested
- Oversees all QC operations at both R54, R64 and R61
Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):
- improve existing processes/quality checks to prevent defective products from shipping to achieve Defect Material Rates (DMRs) below plant target.
- Drive/demonstrate safe behaviors to meet or exceed the plant's OSHA recordable incident rate. All accidents can be prevented.
- Provide production support to achieve the plant's First Pass Yield goals.
- Contribute to scrap reduction goal by inspecting all incoming material and ensuring it meets the quality standards. Prevents bad parts from being taken to the lines.
Requirements Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:
- A minimum of 3 years of practical experience in Quality Control or equivalent is required.
- Possess thorough knowledge of QC measuring instruments and gages.
- Ability to understand or determine engineering design concepts and intentions in addition to literal written specifications.
- Capable of working independently with little direct supervision. Possess organizational and planning ability.
- Practical work/educational experience with computers: word processing and spreadsheets.
Physical/Mental Essential Functions:
- Occasional travel to corporate site in Michigan City, IN.
- General understanding/usage QC tools as well as Microsoft Office 365
- Ability to identify, communicate, and help prevent potential issues (8D approach).
- Ability to follow a set of procedures or sequences.
- Lifting of product, frequent standing and bending.
- Work Conditions:
- Work in a plant environment. Some areas are narrow and difficult to maneuver.
- Work hours are from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm.
