Afterschool Teacher - 21st Century Afterschool ProgramProgram Goal: To provide comprehensive academic support and innovative, project-based STEM enrichment activities for at-risk students in grades K-3 who may be struggling socially and/or academically so they can improve their engagement in learning and achieve academic success through the 21st Century afterschool program at Hyannis West Elementary School.Position: Afterschool TeacherJob Description: Afterschool Teacher duties include:
- Required Reporting
- Assist site coordinator with comprehensive data collection system required by the D.E.S.E. (e.g. SAYO's, grant reporting).
- Assist site coordinator with documenting projects and activities by submitting weekly lesson plans that post daily goals/objectives and implement a reflection activity.
- Conduct at least 2 APT-O's per year.
- Submit all reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Bring any discipline concerns to the attention of the site coordinator.
- Planning & Instruction
- Collaborate with Site Coordinator, Community Partners, Principal, and Program Coordinator to develop appropriate age groupings, and to plan/implement strategically designed project-based activities and interest clubs that align with MA. ELA & Math Frameworks/ program goals and objectives.
- Plan collaboratively with community partners to assure academic integrity and student engagement in service learning and project-based activities.
- Design and implement relevant project-based learning activities that culminate in a product/presentation to reinforce academic and life skills development in collaboration with community partners.
- Provide individual instruction and homework assistance, as needed.
- Communication/Family Engagement
- Communicate with parents/guardians when necessary & participate in parent/family activities, including end of session showcase.
- Assist Site Coordinator with Bi-Monthly Family Engagement Events

- Follow Health & Safety Protocols
- Follow grant guidelines/goals & objectives as submitted to DESE
- Ensure student confidentiality
- Participate in 21st Century district planning and/or professional development sessions.
- Participate in workshops/professional development opportunities provided by the district and DESE when offered.
Program duration and anticipated schedule
- Program runs 10/15/24-6/17/25 Monday - Thursday, anticipating 12-15 hours per week starting October and going through June
- Session 1 runs 10/15/24-2/14/25
- Session 2 runs 2/24/25-6/17/25
Qualifications
- Appropriate elementary teacher certification
- Dynamic, creative educator who enjoys working with youth at-risk
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks (ELA & Math)
- Knowledge of and experience with project-based & service learning
- Documented special skills/talents for facilitating student interest clubs and/or activities in the area of STEM.
