The OpportunityWe are recruiting for an R&D Engineering Technician to join our Abbott Heart Failure team in Atlanta, GA, focused on helping people with heart failure manage their health. This role primarily involves working on the CardioMEMS HF portfolio, which remotely monitors changes in pulmonary artery (PA) pressure – an early indicator of worsening heart failure. This technology aids physicians in improving patient outcomes, reducing mortality rates, and enhancing the quality of life for heart failure patients.

The technician will assist in executing product development tasks for the next generation of CardioMEMS implantable sensors, employing best-practice MEMS engineering methods to ensure high-quality, reliable, and manufacturable sensors. An ideal candidate would have prior experience in a cleanroom environment and basic knowledge of standard MEMS fabrication processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with engineers on product and process design development and optimization.
  • Assembles functional prototypes and provides feedback on the assembly process and design.
  • Organizes, coordinates, and executes building and testing of prototypes per engineering instructions and defined test methods.
  • Conducts routine preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Works with engineers and vendors to maintain, fix, calibrate, or qualify lab equipment.
  • Conducts both wet and dry wafer fabrication processes in a cleanroom environment.
  • Assists in the transfer of products from R&D to manufacturing.
  • Drafts Manufacturing Process Instructions.
  • Maintains laboratory areas to ensure they are neat, clean, and organized.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Manages multiple project tasks with minimal supervision, ensuring timely completion.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Experienced in assembling or testing devices.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an ISO 5 cleanroom environment.
  • Proficient in assembling and disassembling instruments.
  • Skilled in building prototypes with small components and assemblies.
  • Proficient with MS Office (e.g., Excel, Word).
  • Strong communication, technical, and computer skills.
  • Excellent multitasking abilities and minimal supervision required.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-up abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of experience in Semiconductor, MEMS, or Microelectronics equipment and processes.
  • Hands-on experience in chemical handling and processing.
  • CAD or SolidWorks experience is a plus.

The base pay for this position is $19.60 – $39.20 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
