Their 1st product, KIMIA Recover, a continuous monitoring device for the knee joint, has obtained CE marking and HSA approval, and booked revenues from large implant companies and hospitals. It has recently won the Innomatch grant by the Temasek Foundation (one of the 6 among 256 companies across 32 countries), and is currently deployed in some of the largest public hospitals in Singapore. KIMIA Recover is a comprehensive recovery management solution providing reduction in number of hospital visits and complications. The product was also the National Winner and International Top 20 of the prestigious James Dyson Award 2020, and has gained traction with major public hospitals and orthopedic clinics. Their digital therapy platform, consisting of KIMIA Assess and KIMIA Move products, uses artificial intelligence technology for digital MSK assessment and therapy. This platform is capable of providing pre-consultation assessments and real-time exercise guidance and feedback to musculoskeletal patients, and is being adopted by some of the largest private healthcare providers in the region, along with large corporate players.

Job Summary:

As a Research and Development (R&D) Manager, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the research and development process within the organization. Your primary objective will be to drive innovation, improve existing products or processes, and develop new technologies that align with the company's strategic goals to achieve breakthroughs in product development and maintain the company's competitive edge in the market.

Responsibilities:

  • [Design & Development] Lead the Design, Development and Validation of algorithms that form the core of Kinexcs' products and technology.
  • [Integration] Work closely with the software development, product teams and external vendors on improvements and integration of these algorithms to meet customer requirements and specifications.
  • [Strategic R&D Collaboration] Lead the strategic R&D collaboration efforts of the company. Identify key collaborators at leading universities and technical institutes, clinical organizations and hospitals, industry players and technology suppliers, and lead the collaboration efforts with these key external stakeholders on company's various current and planned products.
  • [Sourcing Technology] Keep abreast with latest technological developments, advancements and trends in the industry and academic research that may be utilized in companies' various products, and ensure timely translational adoption of such technological components.
  • [Roadmap & Strategy] Participate and contribute in formulating a strategic product development roadmap for various product lines of the company.
  • [Hiring] Participate and contribute in recruiting and retaining relevant technical talent necessary to perform and execute various roles across different levels of the organization, and to expand technical capabilities.
  • [Mentoring & Developing Team, Developing Capabilities] Coach, mentor, and train the junior technical team in various areas and enhance company's capabilities to deliver innovative products.
  • Creating and Managing and Intellectual Property Portfolio] Work with internal product and external clinical teams to create, develop and manage a strong intellectual property portfolio (including patents, know-how and trade-secrets etc) that enhances company's position in the industry, and protects company's commercial interests in various jurisdictions.
  • [Grants & Applications] Identify grants and other types of funding opportunities, and draft and submit applications with various internal and external stakeholders and collaborators in a timely manner.
  • [Trade-shows, Conferences, Events] Identify external trade-shows, conferences and events for the company to participate and prepare product demonstrations to engage and attract key target audience members. Follow-up with relevant leads to enable business and scientific collaborations.
  • [Publications, Project Management] Identify key scientific publications for the company to publish results from academic and clinical collaborations. Lead the technical experimentation, project management including data analysis, drafting and publication of the results in these publications.
  • [Sourcing & Managing R&D Vendors] Source and manage key suppliers and vendors for R&D projects, including all technical and project management aspects.
  • Other administrative and ad-hoc tasks assigned by the company from time to time.
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Science, Technology). A Master's or Ph.D. in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in managing and leading an R&D team in a corporate or research setting.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, set clear objectives, and drive results.
  • In-depth knowledge of the research and development process, including market research, prototyping, testing, and commercialization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully launching innovative products or technologies in the market.
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
