- In this role you will be a member of the Metals, Combustion & Energy Applications Research & Development (R&D) team working with other technologists and technicians, and under the direction of our engineers
- You will be involved in developing new industrial gas applications in primary metal-making, glass, combustion, and pyro-metallurgical processes
- Depending on your strengths and skills your day-to-day tasks could include any of: designing experimental assemblies, procuring materials and supplies, fabricating and assembling of experimental apparatus and conducting experiments with high temperature furnaces and/or combustion equipment
- Fabricate, operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instrumentation and control systems
- Document designs, operating procedures and prepare reports, setup and execute R&D experiments including some data analysis
- Prepare for and participate in safety reviews and safety related documentation
Requirements:
- Associate's degree or relevant experience/training is required
- One to three years of experience working in a technician role preferably in R&D related work
- Strong communications skills, the ability to self-start with minimal direction, strong organizational skills and the ability to work with others in a team environment
- You should have a strong mechanical aptitude, as well as a strong focus on safety and broad knowledge of a range of equipment, tools, techniques for fabrication, setup, and operation of experimental equipment
- You should be able to travel to customer sites (10% - 15% of the time) to implement and test newly developed technologies
Preferred experience (but not necessary to apply):
- Experience with industrial gas supply equipment, instrumentation, and control systems, and CAD design
- Welding and/or machining skills
- Experience in instrumentation, control and data acquisition
