POSITION PURPOSEThe Radio Control Dispatcher utilizes radio, telephone, and computer equipment to help bus operators support daily transit operations. Work involves preparing and maintaining computerized files and records, including operations reports, incident logs, accident reports, and data concerning service interruptions, cancellations, vehicle breakdowns, etc.*The pay rate for this position is $24.50/hour.* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to perform satisfactorily the functions listed below. The company will provide reasonable accommodation to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. Operate and monitor two-way radio; sends and receives messages. Respond to radio calls from bus operators regarding emergency and non-emergency situations requiring the attention and assistance of maintenance personnel and transportation supervisors. Make an initial assessment of an emergency or non-emergency situation and determine the degree of danger, damage, urgency, inconvenience involved, or service needs. Communicate route changes to bus operators in inclement weather, unsafe operating conditions, road construction, or other unique situations affecting service delivery. Instruct bus operators concerning directions and detours. Contact police, fire, and ambulance in emergencies. Maintain a daily log of dispatch orders, maintenance requests, and computer database. Write dispatch orders. Take direction from supervisors and instruct operators. Report operational problems and incidents to transportation supervisors; make recommendations and propose solutions to operational issues. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and experience. Two to five years of transit experience is required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Proficiency in using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, the internet, and spreadsheets and databases. Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones. Above average decision-making abilities. Basic mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors and coworkers. Ability to interact with individuals and groups in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.
