Job Description:
Position SummaryThe Laboratory Technician is part of a critical team that conducts analyses for drinking water quality and radon in air and water samples. This role is responsible for sample receipt and login, laboratory analysis, reporting test results, customer service, and associated duties as needed to support the laboratory.Essential Functions
    • Follows all applicable laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
    • Conducts daily laboratory activities including sample receipt, testing, equipment maintenance, and cleaning of work area.
    • Ensures samples and materials are received and documented appropriately and in a timely manner.
    • Submits test data for review and returns samples for archiving according to laboratory protocols and/or SOPs.
    • Monitors results, interprets laboratory analysis and trends, and communicates results as required.
    • Maintains clean lab areas, supplies and glassware.
    • Ensures appropriate sample and waste disposal by following appropriate regulations and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
    • Prior experience working with laboratory equipment such as spectrometers, balances, pH meters, laboratory ovens or fume hoods preferred.
    • Experience with laboratory procedures, techniques, and analytical instrumentation, preferred.
    • Atomic Absorption (AA), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GCMS), pH, Nitrates, Metals or other laboratory testing experience is a plus but is not required for this position.
    • Experience with LIMS preferred.
Physical Demands and Work environment
    • Typing speed of 50-60 WPM necessary for data entry portion of work, required.
    • Highly organized and attention to detail
    • Great communication skills
    • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office Suite
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
    • Ability to adapt and handle multiple tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
    • Associate Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Mathematics or a related field, required.
    • Minimum one (1) year experience working with chemical laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment including analytical instrumentation, required.
    • Exposure to Atomic Absorption (AA), Charcoal Cans, Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GCMS), Liquid Scintillation, Radon in Water, P Fos, or other equivalent laboratory methods is a plus but is not required for this position.
