Position OverviewSince 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combing educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes and understands that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.The Shooting Sports Director is responsible to the Program Director for the safe and effective instruction and management of the shooting sports ranges at camp. The Shooting Sports Director must exercise mature, sound judgment and possess a high degree of personal integrity.Today's summer camp staff are a diverse group of men and women sharing a dynamic career offering independence, achievement, and stability. This is work that makes a difference, work that calls one to continual learning and challenge, work that offers solid compensation, experiences, and advancement.This is a seasonal position (mid-June to mid-August).Responsibilities
  • Setting up, maintaining, and supervising shooting sports ranges.
  • Meetings or exceeding applicable BSA standards and PA state, local, and federal laws.
  • Manage shootings sports staff, schedule, and all shooting activity and advancement.
  • Proper operation and general maintenance of shooting ranges and all equipment.
  • Chief counselor for the shooting sports advancements responsible to certify and submit all records.
  • Enforcing strict adherence to all established safety regulations.
  • Training of the member of the shooting sports staff.
  • Providing guidance, motivation, and support to all camp visitors.
  • Communicate with unit leaders, Scouts, visitors, and staff.
  • Maintain high standards for personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Attend all meals and camp-wide activities unless excused by the Program Director.
  • Obey and enforce all applicable policies, practices, and procedures approved by the New Birth of Freedom Council and the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Know, understand, and implement emergency action plans when needed.
  • Relay any issues that could impact the safe and successful operation of the camp to the Program Director immediately.
  • Exemplify all aspects of the Scout Oath and Law and serve as a role model for staff and Scouts.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Desired Skills
  • High moral character.
  • Working knowledge of Cub Scout and Scouts BSA programs.
  • Familiarity with Camp Tuckahoe facilities and traditions.
  • Auditory and oral abilities to effectively communicate.
  • Physical ability to participate in and instruct shooting skills.
Requirements
  • Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scouts of America's leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • National Camping School: Shooting Sports Director Certification (provided)
  • Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.
  • Auditory and oral abilities to effectively communicate.
  • Meet the membership requirements of the BSA
  • The ability of sight, Medical approval by a physician to work.
  • Physical ability to walk and lift 40 Lbs.
  • Physical ability to participate in and instruct outdoor skills.
