JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Reach Associate (RA) takes responsibility for the non-instructional duties of one or more teachers, as designated by each teacher under the Opportunity Culture model. The RA works closely with the Multi-Classroom Leader or Expanded Impact Teacher to coordinate various administrative duties and completes non-instructional paperwork. (S)he manages procedures and supervises student behavior during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and other unstructured activities, and while teacher(s) deliver instruction.

There may be some variation to the RA positions across Opportunity Culture schools. In some models, the RA may assist with small-group instruction as directed by a Multi-Classroom Leader or Expanded Impact Teacher.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom and School Environment

Hold students accountable for high expectations of behavior and engagement that are ambitious and measurable

Contribute to a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport

Manage student behavior during transitions and less structured time (e.g., recess, lunch)

Monitor independent work time in classroom while teacher provides instruction

Professional Responsibilities

Solicit and eagerly receive feedback from supervisor and team members to improve professional skills

Maintain administrative duties on behalf of teacher (such as taking attendance, entering grades, scheduling parent conferences, preparing student activities and assignments, checking homework, additional paperwork)

Collaborate with teacher(s), tutor(s) and digital lab monitor(s)

Participate in professional development opportunities at school

Instructional Assistant Variation

Help with tutoring in areas of content knowledge, under the direction and using tools/rubrics of the supervising teachers

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree or 60 semester hours of college credit or successful completion of ParaPro Assessment test required. Prior work experience of three to six months with young people in a school or child care setting and previous IPS experience is helpful. Incumbent will have organizational skills to be able to compile and maintain documentation, have basic computer skills, and basic office skills of typing and answering phone calls. Must be able to work under the instruction of a certified teacher but without constant direct supervision.
