PRIMARY PURPOSE:Provide leadership, coordination, collaboration, and innovation in reading curriculum and instruction, so that each student may derive maximum benefit from the reading curriculum.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree requiredMaster's degree in reading preferred Valid Texas teacher certificateReading Specialist EndorsementDemonstrates a commitment to ongoing education/to promote professional growthSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Thorough understanding and knowledge of literacy instructionKnowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading instructionAbility to use diagnostic data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of student(s)Ability to evaluate reading instructional programs and teaching effectivenessProficient knowledge of research-based instructional practices for reading and writing techniquesStrong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain trusting relationships with adultsCalm and patient demeanor with all staff, students, and administratorsAbility to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategiesExperience:Minimum of three to five years as a classroom teacher
