ABOUT THE POSITIONTemporary/Contingent: There is one full-time, temporary-contingent short-term vacancy for this position that is expected to last approximately six (6) months. For more information about temporary-contingent benefits, visit our The Real Property Agent I is the entry level in the Real Property Agent series. The incumbent will receive supervision of their work and perform routine activities in various real property assignments. The Real Estate Division within the Department of Public Works provides a variety of real estate services to client divisions, departments, other government agencies, and the general public. This position will perform routine real estate tasks including, but not limited to, property acquisitions, lease negotiations, property management functions, property exchanges, abandonments, and professional services contracts. Customer service and negotiation skills will become stronger as working with internal and external clients are key to success in this position. Close supervision and frequent review of work decreases as an incumbent demonstrates increased proficiency in assigned tasks.ABOUT YOUOur Highly Qualified Candidate: Our highly qualified candidate has a positive attitude and is a team player. They have strong, effective, and persuasive communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with peers, consulting professionals, and members of the public. Additionally, following and providing written and oral directions and procedures are qualities on our ideal candidate. They are comfortable with technology and have familiarity with Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. They have knowledge of principles of real estate title, appraisal, leasing, purchase, and sale of real property along with legal instruments used in real property transactions such as contracts, deeds, leases, licenses, escrow documents, and title reports. Skills in time management and ability to work independently are important to be successful as well as having excellent judgement and decision-making skills. Lastly, our ideal candidate will need to understand and acknowledge that this job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations. QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:
  • Principles of real estate title, appraisal, leasing, purchase, and sale of real property
  • Legal instruments used in real property transactions such as contracts, deeds, leases, licenses, escrow documents, and title reports
Ability to:
  • Follow written and oral directions and procedures
  • Write clearly and concisely
  • Communicate orally in an effective and persuasive manner
  • Apply concepts of business math and basic statistics
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the public, property owners, elected officials, department heads, co-workers, consultants, and others in sensitive communications, negotiations, and relations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Economics, Accounting, Law, or a related field. Two years of recent experience working in a real property or real estate capacity that involved real property and real estate appraisal, acquisition, or property management experience and which provided the knowledge and abilities listed below may substitute for the education requirement.
