Salary: $19.87 - $25.83 Hourly Location : Beaufort Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202400266 Division: Finance Department: Assessor Opening Date: 06/19/2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Description The Real Property Transfer Clerk analyzes and processes real property title changes: i.e., sales, inheritances, trusts, new subdivisions, splits, and acreage changes and creates as well as makes corrections to the real property information the system for Beaufort County. Incumbents verify that the information is correct; process corrections when necessary; if unable to match information, suspend processing deeds pending further research; respond to taxpayer inquiries, and create new subdivisions annually. Examples of Duties
- Verifies that the information is correct for names, property descriptions, lot numbers, acreage, plat book, and page; pulls up the chain of titles to make sure that the dates, book and page, consideration, and type of deed matches; transfers the property into the new owner's names; and sets aside deeds that need further research.
- After the transfer is complete, stamps the deed with the parcel number; verifies one last time; and for multiple parcels, stamps each parcel.
- Annually creates subdivisions by taking new subdivision plats and entering them into the system; parcel numbers and acreage in the system from new survey maps that were created the year before, and processes parcel splits, line reconfigurations, and acreage changes.
- Records any changes to the properties into the system.
- Provides customer assistance to citizens, other departments, and/or other interested parties with questions about deeds, transfers, meets, and bounds either at the front desk or on the phone.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Paralegal Certification desired
- Two (2) years of related office support or real property work experience
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word/Excel)
- Excellent customer service skills
