Salary : $40,123.20 - $48,131.20 AnnuallyLocation : ElkoJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202400089Department: District AttorneyOpening Date: 11/05/2024Job DescriptionSUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSEThe Receptionist Assistant Caseworker I for Criminal & Child Support Divisions - District Attorney performs various clerical duties and helps back up the main criminal and child support receptionists. Time is shared between both departments. The incumbent must be bondable and pass a background check with the State of Nevada Department of Public Safety. Employees of the District Attorney's Office are mandatory reporters per NRS 432B.200. Education and ExperienceESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions:
  • Politely and professionally greet those arriving at or calling the District Attorney's Office and attempt to provide them with the requested service.
  • Screen the calls before rerouting to the appropriate recipient. Take clear, concise, and accurate telephone messages, enter case notes in the case management computer system. Provide back-up to telephones and walk-in customers, directing visitors when applicable.
  • Send out appropriate applications and other forms to customers as requested.
  • Calendar appointments for child support staff as needed.
  • File legal documents with various Justice and District Courts, obtaining the Judge's signature, when required.
  • Receive, and scan documents into the case management computer system and distribute all incoming mail, reports, and legal documents to the proper persons after entering case notes. Check criminal and child support out-going boxes at the clerk's office, justice court and county mailroom. Process outgoing mail.
  • Maintain copiers; change toner, maintain paper supply and request maintenance when needed.
  • Keep an accurate inventory of office supplies; inform the Office Manager when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Perform miscellaneous secretarial tasks at the direction of the Office Manager or Program Manager, including copying files, letters, faxing etc...
  • Perform professionally and efficiently under pressure. Maintain composure in spite of constant disruptions.
  • Open new bad check files in the case management computer system; request certified banking records and monitor the case for payment.
  • Understand orders, motions, petitions, stipulations, and other legal documents.
  • Copy all certified documents, carefully preserving the original for admittance to Court.
  • Backup for attorney witness/victim interviews.
  • Distribute jury lists received from the courts.
  • Locate and pull closed or spindled criminal files from the closed storage area, as requested.
  • Explain general policies and procedures to the public.

  • Basic knowledge of legal documents, legal terminology, and court procedures.
  • Working knowledge of business correspondence formats, record keeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer hardware and software including county case management software programs, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases for the purposes of creating, editing, and distributing information.

Physical Demands and Working EnvironmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTAn employee in this position must meet the following physical requirements upon application:
  • Work is performed in a shared reception office setting.
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Frequent interruption to planned work activities should be expected.
  • Environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust and fumes.
  • Work is performed in a potentially violent, traumatic, highly charged emotional environment. The employee will be exposed to angry, abusive, and upset individuals.
  • Tools and equipment used include personal computer, printer, scanner, multi-line telephone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, postage machine and other associated office equipment. Incumbent will occasionally be asked to travel in a passenger vehicle.
