CLASSIFICATION TITLE:Recorder SecretarySALARY:$42,439.32 - $54,891.71DEPARTMENT:Circuit CourtOpening Date:11/21/2024Closing Date:12/07/2024 12:00 a.m.FLSA Status: Non-exempt -Overtime pursuant to Collective Bargaining Agreement or Human Resources and Labor Relations PolicyEmployment Relationship: Just cause subject to probationary periodGENERAL SUMMARYUnder supervision, utilizes electronic recording equipment to make records of judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings and hearings. Prepares typed transcripts of the recorded proceedings as directed. Operates electronic recording equipment and other standard office equipment. Performs a variety of secretarial duties.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESUtilizes electronic recording equipment to make verbatim records of judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings.Assists with video requests of judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings and hearings.Prepares typed transcripts of the recorded proceedings as directed in compliance with State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) requirements.Transcribes the dictation of legal reports, orders, forms, reports, decisions, recommendations, correspondence, and other materials.Marks exhibits, maintains logs of cases, schedules hearings and maintains dockets, ensures records are placed in permanent storage in Records Retention.Assists in the capacity of recorder and/or secretary in the Circuit Court upon request.Indexes and labels cases with names and numbers.Types reports, recommendations, correspondence, forms, letters, records, and other materials.Screens and routes correspondence, reports and other information as directed.Makes duplicate copies of reports and/or information which is then routed to proper persons, departments and/or filed.Schedules hearings, meetings, and appointments.Receives incoming telephone calls, answers questions appropriate to skill level and relays messages.Operates electronic recording equipment and other standard office equipment such as typewriters, personal computers, word processors, copiers, and calculators.Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions. Performs related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSRequired Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent
  • A minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience in a legal/court setting
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Three years of customer service experience in a legal/court setting
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Certified Electronic Operator (CEO) certification required. Must be permanently certified within eighteen (18) months of appointment by the Michigan Supreme Court to operate electronic recording equipment
  • Certified Electronic Recorder (CER) certification required. Must be permanently certified within eighteen (18) months of appointment by the Michigan Supreme Court to operate electronic recording equipment
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIESKnowledge of:
