Provides care for the ill, injured, or infirm with supervision from the Director of Medical Services. This care is provided to clients in the adult substance use disorder (SUD) residential program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares and gives medications in the dosage, route, and frequency prescribed by a physician.Observe, record, and report desired effects, untoward reactions, and side effects of drug therapy.Recognizes accepted prescribing limits and reports deviations to the prescribing individual.Performs other nursing acts authorized or limited by the board and consistent with the National Federation of Practical Nurses Standards of Practice or the Standard of Practice established by nationally accepted organizations of licensed practical nurses.Maintains license with Continuing Education Units in accordance with State of Kentucky regulations.Performs daily sick calls, triage, treatment, and resulting charting.Provides transportation and supervision of clients to various medical appointments.Provides initial assessment of clients.Schedules medical appointments as indicated.Maintains medical charting and medical files as necessary.Monitors immunization status.Counseling on proper hygiene, sexually transmitted diseases, and pregnancy prevention.Administers alcohol and drug screens, as indicated.Monitors monthly weights.Obtains reports of laboratory, X-rays, and diagnostic studies.Performs other duties as assigned.Working conditions/environment:
- Varied shifts within a twenty-four-hour schedule.
- Holidays, weekends, and overtime may be required.
- Meals are provided for staff when on campus.
- Intense, unpredictable population with the possibility of verbal and physical aggression.
- Fast-paced environment with the need for quick decisions to deal with any crisis that may arise.
- Environment is both indoor and outdoor. The environment is, at times, loud and stressful.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education: RN and LPN licensed by the State of Kentucky is required.
Experience: Two years of previous experience in recovery services is preferred.
Specific Skills and Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical requirements include proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications the organization or regulatory agencies use.
- Valid Drivers License and insurability.
- Ability to understand and relate to the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to read, write and converse in English.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
- Successful completion of a background screening.
- Successful completion of a TB skin test or proof of a negative chest x-ray or other documentation.
Specialized Licenses or Training:
- Licensed Practical Nurse licensed by the State of Kentucky.
- Successful completion of Excellent Foundations.
- Maintain CPR/1st Aid training.
