Degree Preferred Range C, 185 Days Shawnee Mssion School District POSITION TITLE: Recovery Room Assistant DIVISION: Administrative Services DEPARTMENT: Elementary Education DAYS/HRS: 185 Day Work Schedule 7 hours per day SALARY SCHEDULE: Range C Hourly Rat.e could be higher with a Teaching Certificate REPORTS TO: Building Principal Summary:The Recovery Room Assistant (RRA) will supervise students unable to manage behaviors in the Safe Seat and Buddy Room as part of the BIST continuum. Additionally, the RRA works under the direction of the Innovation Specialist to provide proactive intervention strategies designed to help students better manage behavior and social-emotional needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned
- Provide a safe space for students to develop behavioral and social-emotional skills necessary for academic and life success
- Provide specific instruction and modeling of behavioral and academic expectations
- Partner with students, parents, certified and classified staff, and outside resources (when appropriate) to create and execute Student Success Plans (see attached)
- Establish, maintain, and preserve a safe learning environment for all students
- Assist students in de-escalation process
- Assist students in processing the issue using Think Sheet or other issue preparation format
- Work with students and classroom teachers to develop a re-entry plan including helping students take and accept responsibility for their behavior
- Assist students in completing class work
- Assisting in the development, execution, and assessment of student success plans. Duties might include but are not limited to:
- Providing Triage for students - ex. Periodic check-ins, scheduled breaks...
- Providing individual or small group instruction on specific academic or behavioral skills
- Administering progress monitoring measures to determine plan effectiveness and reporting to PLC and SIT teams when applicable.
- Maintaining a record of students referred to the recovery room including time of day, reason for referral, referring teacher, and any other information deemed pertinent by the building team.
- Regular communication with classroom teachers and parents (when appropriate) regarding student progress

- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 60 college hours, A.A. Degree Preferred
- Have or be able to obtain Emergency Substitute Certificate
- Previous experience working with children
- BIST Training Preferred
- Mediator
- Ability to establish rapport with Students, Staff and Administration
- Effective organizational skills
