Recovery Specialist Job DescriptionReports To: Program Supervisor-OORP ProgramPosition Summary:The recovery specialist possesses the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to competently provide non-clinical assistance and recovery supports while maintaining follow-up with participants. The recovery specialist will work with individuals to support and strengthen their capacity to engage in their personal recovery. Duties and Responsibilities:•Educating individual on how to appropriately navigate treatment, social service and recovery support systems; •Being a positive role model to individuals and their families by sharing experiential knowledge, hope, and skills; •Maintaining professional relationships with individuals and families in order to assist individuals in the treatment engagement and retention process; •Reinforcing, guiding, and assuring individuals and their families that recovery is possible, and is built on multiple strengths, coping abilities, and resources of each individual; •Collaboration with individuals to develop a Recovery Plan•Assisting in establishing and sustaining a family, social and community environment supportive of recovery; •Assisting with the identification of and participation in the recovery community; •Advocating for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery; •Empowering individuals to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their recovery pathway; •Provide recovery support based on individual's preference and his/her assessed needs•Support the individual as they move through the stages of change •Assist the individual with gaining skills and resources, including MAT•Providing on-call coverage•Providing telephone and face to face contact follow-up for at least six months •Support services are individualized to the strengths and culture of the individual rather than delivered as a scripted or pre-packaged set of services•Refer individuals to the South Jersey Aids Alliance for screenings for HIV and hepatitis.•Provides services to clients/families in their native language or is able to procure the services of a translator.•As appropriate to scope of practice, assists in the data collection for each assigned individual•Minimal Qualifications:Education: High School Diploma or equivalency Licensure: Valid Driver's License required. Experience: Two (2) years' experience in the guiding principles of recoveryPreferred QualificationsBi-lingualCertified Peer Recovery Specialist training3- days of DMHAS ethic training
