Position Summary: The Recreation Aide position will primarily assist the Recreation & Physical Education Facilities staff through a variety of ways to include monitoring facility access, providing customer service throughout two recreation facilities, performing facility monitoring duties and supervising facility reservations. The position will report to the Director of Recreation Facilities and the Assistant Director of Recreation Facilities & Reservations. This isa 19.9 hour per week position. Qualifications: Work requires analytical, communication, and customer service skills generally acquired through two years of relevant work experience. Essential Functions: • Be able and willing to work all jobs within the recreation center; Facility Monitor, Front Desk, and/or Weight Room. • Be able and willing to train incoming employees. • Be willing and able to work in both Brodie and Wilson Recreation Centers. • Be able to serve on the severe weather team as needed. • Be able and willing to work up to 29.9 hours per week on a regular basis, which may include covering shifts for other employees. • Be able and willing to work all Recreation and Physical Education special events. • Be physically able to lead the Emergency Action Plan. • Recreation facilities are open 5:30am-11:00pm. required. • Be an example of the department mission and values to members and teammates. • Attend 2 Focus Group meetings per year. • Assist with Facility in-services trainings and meetings. • Support and help progress the university and department's commitment to anti-racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion. • Uphold the university policies on anti-racism and discrimination: ke.edu/commitments/ and Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities: Facility Monitor • Fills in for front desk and weight room staff when needed. • Consistently moves around the facility to check all doors, alarms, locker rooms, and bathrooms. • Addresses the cleanliness of the cardio areas and machines. • Track and enforces day locker policies (including locker rooms). • Enforces al l facility policies and procedures. • Assists the front desk staff during busy check in times. • Follows all opening and closing procedures. • Carries out security measures. • Responds to all building emergencies (Accidents/Injuries, Inclement weather, etc.) • Executes the set-up of activity areas for a variety of internal & external groups when needed. • Provides support for special events, as needed. • Ensures outstanding customer service. • Works cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals. • Promotes a safe, clean, functional and marketable facility. • Performs other work as assigned. Guest Services Attendant • Serves as the first link to the centers and is responsible for greeting members and guests upon arrival as well as acknowledge their departure. • Checks members, guests and visitors in/out of the facilities. • Monitors flow of traffic into and out of the facility. • Ensures Duke Cards and Guest Passes are current and valid to access the facilities. • Answers any questions or concerns users have. If you are unable to answer question, refer them to the appropriate Recreation &Physical Education staff personnel or department. • Follows procedures to register guests and visitors. • Keeps sign in book at front desks for guests/visitors and waivers updated. • Arrange and maintain the Lost & Found cabinet in an orderly and organized manner. • Reviews the Daily Room Schedule for reservations. • Completes all necessary forms. • Checks out loan equipment and ensures equipment is returned and does not leave the facility.
