Job Description:Under the direction of the Director of Recreation & Events, the Recreation Assistant is responsible for providing customer service to the Field House members and customers during daily operations of the Field House. This position will provide direction to customers regarding departmental offerings. The Recreation Assistant is also responsible for monitoring the fitness center and weight room areas in order to help ensure the safety of patrons; cleaning and upkeep of equipment; and enforcing facility policies.The hiring pay rate is $21.87 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC's workweek. CMC's workweek is Saturday through Friday.Position anticipated to close on November 7, 2024 or until filled.
Minimum Qualifications:Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Current certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is an approved substitute) and Red Cross First Aid
OR the ability to obtain both certifications before regular shifts are scheduled. Employees may be hired and scheduled for training shifts without required certifications, but cannot be scheduled to work regular shifts unless all certifications are current,Ability to attend a Recreation Assistant training and prove a thorough understanding of department policies, procedures, and processes. Ability to assess customer requests and act within the scope of the responsibilities according to College standards and procedures. Good oral, written, organizational and multi-tasking skills. - Consistently uphold all Outdoor Leadership Center & Field House policies and procedures
- Provide a safe and inclusive environment for patrons.
- Greet customers courteously, observe department ID policy, scan ID's, verify photos to patrons' face, and be proactive in policy enforcement. Remain visible and approachable to customer questions, concerns, and complaints.
- Be knowledgeable about campus recreation/fitness programs/services such as: membership sales, activity registrations, reserve equipment, restocking department supplies.
- Answer and direct customer inquiries, phone calls, emails, etc.
- Responsibly handle cash, process credit cards, and maintain accurate membership information according to college procedures.
- Assist with the set-up, clean-up, and supervision of special events that take place at the Outdoor Leadership Center and Field House
- Maintain clean appearance of lobby and Field House areas by complete all cleaning tasks that are required during shift, including facility cleaning, hygiene product restock in restrooms and locker rooms, facility trash collection, and deep cleaning of fitness machines
- Consistently monitor and tidy up the weight room and fitness areas.
- Organize and disinfect fitness equipment available to members and guests on the fitness floor
- Provide first aid to injured participants according to Red Cross First Aid guidelines
- Ensure the safety of all members, guests, and employees by properly enforcing facility policies
- Respond to disorders, injuries, and inappropriate behavior and report to supervisor accordingly.
- Understand and be able to follow the Emergency Action Plan response.
- Attend all staff trainings, meetings, in-services, and shifts as schedule

Supervision ReceivedThis position will report Director of Recreation & EventsSupervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no supervisory responsibility.Special Conditions of EmploymentSuccessful completion of a background check will be required as well as motor vehicles records report when applicable. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Travel on occasion for department meetings or individual training.Working Conditions This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally.
