Job Type Part-time Description UCFS is looking for candidates who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others! We are currently seeking a part-time (25hrs) Recreation Assistant for our eldercare facility Sheltering Arms to promote and lead a balanced schedule of group/individual recreational activities for Sheltering Arms Residential Care. Assist in the planning/preparation/set up of activities. Encourage and evaluate client participation. Provide transportation to recreational activities in the community. Assist as needed with Ross Adult Day Center. Responsible for creating and leading craft groups/activities for the elderly. Essential Responsibilities -
- Lead and participate in a balanced schedule of individual and group activities that are mentally and physically stimulating. Activities will be indoor and outdoor individual/group activities that offer opportunities for creative expression such as exercise, arts, crafts, music, drama, educational and virtual programs and outside walks that are directed at appropriate ability levels, interests and meaningful interactions
- Distribute and post monthly schedule of activities for residents, clients and families with the opportunity for resident/client involvement. Set up for planned activities. Coordinate and communicate activity with residents and other program services and staff.
- Transport to and utilize community resources to encourage community outings and activities which may include changes in work schedule to include evenings and weekends.
- Maintain a pleasant and cheerful environment of facility through holiday decorating, caring for plants and helping clients decorate their rooms.
- Provide client/resident transportation for activities and medical appointments in agency vehicles as required
- Work in collaboration with volunteers as needed.
- Participates in required in-services, staff meetings and conferences as required or assigned
Requirements
- Two years of employment in working with elderly in therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy or a relate field in a health care.
- Demonstrated positive, cooperative and professional attitude.
- Ability to relate well to people demonstrating sensitivity to client/resident issues and feelings, able to provide encouragement and engage clients in activities.
