Primary Job Responsibilities:
* In collaboration with APE Manager, research and develop leisure and recreational programs for students in each assigned home.
* Assist in coordination of community leisure and recreation services for assigned home by developing a weekly and monthly calendar of activities in collaboration with each house manager and with other recreation assistants.
* Provide opportunities for participation in Guild sponsored programs including sports, arts, hobbies and groups by developing and implementing a range of weekly and monthly program held at the residences or at the Guild's main site.
* Provide opportunities for participation in community activities including Special Olympics, YMCA and other community-organized classes and events (sports, cultural, educational).
* Coordinate special events after school and on weekends in conjunction with other recreation assistants and residential managers
* Plan and lead trips to sporting, cultural and entertainment events for students in assigned homes
* Assist in purchasing and training staff to use of recreational materials to support free time with the students at assigned residences.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Bachelor Required
* Training or experience teaching skills to a students who have mental health diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities
* A valid Water Safety or Advanced Life Saving Certificate preferred. Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements.
* MAP (Medication Administration Program) certification or the ability to obtain MAP certification within first 90 days of employment
* Reliable transportation to residential homes located in Massachusetts
* Physical and mental capacity to work in stressful situations and de-escalate individuals who have limited cognition and complex needs
