Job Description
The City of Avondale is currently accepting applicants for Recreation Assistant in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries department. This recruitment may be used to fill part-time regular or part-time temporary positions.
This position will assist the Recreation Coordinators and Recreation Programmers with special events sport leagues, tournaments and recreation programs. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Work schedule varies in accordance with special events, sports leagues, tournament rentals and programs. Programs and special events occur year-round and work schedule will vary based on program need including evenings, weekends and holidays. These positions are scheduled to work less than 19.5 hours per week.
Essential Functions
Assist in special events, sport leagues and programs, as requested.
Train volunteers related to events, programs and activities.
Programming the various elements of a special event.
Complete and file accident and statistical reports, incidents and issues pertaining to program proceedings as required.
Perform on-site inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with program and City safety policies and procedures.
Open and close facilities. Enforce rules and regulations and monitors security of facilities.
Provide general cleanup of grounds and facilities including, but not limited to, restrooms, dugouts, parking lots utilizing various manually operated tools.
Instruct recreation programs, activities and events.
Provide front line customer service to for event participants, program, tournament, event and sports participants as well as park visitors.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency.
Requires valid Arizona Driver's License.
Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
Supplemental Information
Work requires the ability to read rosters and correspondence (i.e., e-mails) from recreation office.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages.
Work requires the ability to write simple instructions and guides.
Must be able to work with citizens or participants in accordance with recreation policies and procedures.
Works requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees. Must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
