Salary : $46,123.00 AnnuallyLocation : ColumbusJob Type: Full-Time RegularJob Number: 202300150Department: Maintenance and RecreationDivision: Recreation ComplexOpening Date: 09/20/2024Closing Date: 12/15/2024 11:59 PM EasternDescription General Statement of DutiesThe Recreation Department Coordinator will coordinate related department/committee meetings and volunteer boards, provide effective communications to community members regarding the Recreation department's activities and will coordinate development of County's maintained trail systems. This position will write grant requests and proposals focusing on recreational uses of the County's trails and parks system. This position has oversight of the Recreation Complex and Maintenance department's budget and budget process. This position collaborates with the Department Head in performing daily functions and duties including media, public communication and greeting the public. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Tasks
  • Coordinates development and maintenance on Polk County's Recreation Complex Trail system.
  • Facilitates County programs which advocate for parks and trail systems usage.
  • Oversight of trail maintenance workdays, maintain inventory of trail tools and coordinate with other organizations for tool sharing. Maintains trails maintenance database to document work. Maintains online database of trails including current descriptions and maps. Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Oversight of educational programs and events (presentations, workshops, educational hikes and outings, etc.) for groups, including afterschool outreach programming.
  • Assist in maintaining a robust countywide trails committee and maintain strong relationships with various trail owners and managers.
  • Reach out to the public and trail partners via social media, websites and e-news, publishes calendar of outdoor events.
  • Pursues, researches, and writes grants related to County Parks and Recreation department.
  • Coordinate scheduling with the YMCA to ensure a seamless County/YMCA partnership.
  • Works with Department Head in creating and coordinating department budget.
  • Manage Recreation Board meetings, dates and times, etc.

  • Willing to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and social media platforms.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Google Earth.
  • Grant writing and application processes.
Typical Qualifications Minimum Requirements and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and intern experience or,
  • Associate's degree and relevant experience or,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience (3 to 5 years).
  • Successful pre-employment drug screen.
  • Successful criminal Background check.
Physical DemandsThe ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. The ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to work in environmental conditions that require both inside and outside work. Worker is subject to noise.
