Job Description:

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Recreation Coordinator - Roosevelt Gardens Park.

This Job Announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received.

Based upon operational needs, this position may require work at one or more of the following neighborhood parks. (Each of these parks are located within close proximity to one another):

* Sunview Park

* Roosevelt Gardens Park

* Franklin Park

* Lafeyette Hart Park

* Boulevard Gardens Park

* Delevoe Park

General Description

Organizes, teaches, and supervises various specialized recreation groups in various parks and settings.

Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.

(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)

Requires six (6) months experience in recreation, athletics, or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.

Preferences

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, late afternoon/evenings, non-school days (i.e., Winter and Spring Break, teacher planning days), and holidays.

Bachelor's degree or higher with major coursework in Parks and Recreation Management, Sports Management, Leisure Studies, Hospitality Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.

CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional)

CSEP (Certified Special Events Professional)

Ability to speak foreign language (Spanish, French/Creole)

One (1) or more years of experience planning/organizing athletic leagues, tournaments, and/or special events management

One (1) or more years of experience working in an after-school and/or summer recreation program

Additional Information:

All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, finger-printing, and clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character ( AGMC.pdf).

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Assists with the planning, development, organizing, and implementation of a variety of recreation and leisure programs, special events, and related services for various population groups (based upon area of assignment).

Assists with planning and implements equipment setup for special events.

Maintains a safe and enjoyable experience for all staff and visitors by providing superior customer service, handling patrons and guest related issues, explaining and interpreting rules, regulations, and fees during recreational activities.

May be required to assist with opening and closing duties ensuring general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of recreation areas to include rental halls, public/private facilities, athletic fields, pavilions, and/or outdoor spaces.

Acts as lead worker in absence of supervisor at assigned programs/events. Based on area assignment, acts as a lead worker with subordinate staff engaged in the areas of Special Populations, Neighborhood, or Regional Parks.

Assigns opening and end of day tasks to subordinate staff and/or volunteers.

Performs clerical duties including creating and maintaining participant and volunteer files, answering phones and fielding patron inquiries, making reservations, and handling business correspondence.

Maintains operational reports related to program schedules, program participation, and program evaluations.

Develops, implements, and assists with training and instruction of other program staff and/or volunteers related to specific assigned programs and/or events.

Assists with inventory management, making recommendations for budget, and obtaining quotes for programming and/or event materials.

Provides community outreach, builds cooperative relationships, and promotes recreational activities through social media, printed promotional materials, community events, meetings, and related activities.

May assist with cash handling responsibilities.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife.
