Job Description:
The Recreation Leader is responsible for recreational activities at the Juvenile Detention Facility. The Recreation Leader promotes and supervises activities such as sports, organized games, special projects, events, crafts and entertainment, while ensuring the safety and interest of the youth. TheRecreation Leader provides direct care assistance and performs other related duties within the Operations Department, as needed.Required TasksSchedule, supervise, and implement recreational programs for youth residents.Manage recreational programs.Oversee a variety of special projects and events, crafts and entertainment.Responsible for ensuring youth safety during sports and group activities.Ensure recreational activities as established by the state of Michigan licensing regulation.Responsible for the supervision and custodial care of a group of youths participating in Wayne County activities as part of the Juvenile Detention Facility (JDF) program.Responsible for the oversight of the behavior management system and merit distribution.Participate in the care and wellbeing of residents.Perform other duties related to the job description, as assigned.Supervising and instructing youth in activities.Cooperate with the Family Independence Agency and internal investigations regarding activities within the JDF.Required KnowledgeCustomer and Personal Service-Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.Clerical-Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography, and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.Education/Experience RequirementsAssociates degree OR equivalent credit hours in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field.One (1) year post-degree professional experience organizing and monitoring recreational activities of youth 18 years of age and younger.Special ConditionsValid State of Michigan Drivers's license and acceptable safe driving record.Applicants must receive clearance to work in a childcaring institution via the Children's Protective Services History Review.
