Salary: $16.35 - $19.88 HourlyLocation : Bellflower, CAJob Type: Part TimeJob Number: 13Department: Parks & RecreationOpening Date: 12/17/2024Closing Date: ContinuousDescription Under supervision, a crew of two staff patrol all parks assisting with opening, closing and/or cleaning outdoor restrooms, performing litter abatement on park grounds, providing strict enforcement of the municipal codes and ordinances governing parks, and providing general public relations to park visitors. Examples Of Duties Approaches all park user groups and offers any needed assistance or reminders of municipal code violations. Addresses more severe illegal activity by contacting law enforcement personnel. Ensures that each park is clean and free from litter and debris before proceeding to the next park. Completes reports pertaining to daily usage at the parks, documents maintenance concerns, and completes incident reports. May provide functional direction and training to lower level and/or less experienced recreation staff and/or volunteers. Typical QualificationsMust be able to read, write, and speak clearly and effectively using the English language. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, co-workers, supervisors, and personnel from other agencies. Required to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work before and/or after regular scheduled work hours as needed. Exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with the public and staff. Demonstrate responsible leadership and maturity in work performance and decision-making abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License. Must also possess valid First Aid and CPR certification, or be willing to obtain certification within the first three (3) months of employment. Bilingual skills desirable. Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old to apply, with either a High School Diploma or current enrollment in High School. Enrollment in college with a major in recreation or a related field is highly desirable. Experience in recreation leadership or recreation programs is desirable. A typical way to obtain this would be direct experience in leadership, volunteerism or participation in recreational activities. Supplemental InformationPart-time, approximately 25 hours per week in the summer and approximately 15 - 20 hours per week in the fall, winter and spring. This position requires the availability to work a flexible schedule that requires irregular hours, various shifts, weekends and holiday work assignments. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and/or recreational facility setting and use standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in recreational activities; and push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and the ability to travel to different sites and locations and be available for irregular work schedule. Environmental Elements Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR and are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned.
