Purpose and Objective of the Position The Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for supervising and administering organized youth and/or adult athletic and recreational activities as well as special events for the Recreation Department. Other duties include recruiting, training and coordinating instructors, officials, volunteers, coaches, and supervising athletic and recreational supervisors and aids. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
- Develops, coordinates, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of recreational programs, activities, and special events.
- Supervises opening and closing of recreation facilities as scheduled.
- Supervises building and participants by enforcing program and building rules, regulations, and procedures. Assists with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and supervising staff.
- Oversees, coordinates and schedules recreation specialist staff, covering shifts as necessary while maintaining a 40-hour workweek
- Build relationships with community members, local organizations, and businesses to foster partnerships, increase program visibility, and encourage participation.
- Develop promotional materials and utilize various media channels to advertise recreational programs and represent the recreation department at community events and meetings as an ambassador for the organization.
- This position requires some evening and weekend work.
Minimum Skills / Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Knowledge of recreational procedures and ability to complete assigned tasks within work time.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and posted schedules.
- Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to carry out duties independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
- Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession.
