Job Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for performing recreationalwork, organizing, and leading participants engaged in recreationalactivities sponsored by the City. May exercise functional supervisionover assigned staff.
Work Location
One (1) of four (4) Adult/Senior Centers in various areas of San Antonio. May be assigned to work rentals and dance studio during or after regular hours of operation and/or on weekends. At the Department's discretion, the work location is subject to change.
Work Hours
8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. (Two (2) locations are open for additional evening hours)
Shifts will vary and are subject to change to accommodate special events, evening coverage, rotating weekends, and holiday shiftwork, as dictated by business needs.
Essential Job Functions
* Confers with staff, parents, and advisory councils on new activities which will motivate interest and participation.
* Conducts classes in various skills/areas and to various age levels, including pre schoolers.
* Implements one or more recreational programs.
* Plans activities, presentations, and special events.
* Issues and receives any apparatus and equipment used by participants, which occasionally requires lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.
* Assists in maintaining attendance reports and other necessary records.
* Maintains equipment and facilities.
* Accompanies participants to tournaments and contest and occasionally officiates games.
* Recruits, trains, and oversees volunteer workers and tournament participants including conducting walking tours of facilities and providing information.
* Assists in planning, promoting, conducting, and overseeing recreational activities and special events for all groups of ages.
* Assists with regular inventories and ensuring the adequate levels of supplies.
* Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
* Adapts equipment for program implementation for the needs of older,
aging population.
* Implements evidence based programs with consideration for declining
motor skills and mobility concerns.
Job Requirements
* High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas
Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
* One (1) year of work experience in recreational activities.
* Valid Class C Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications.
* Experience implementing programming for adults and seniors.
* Experience implementing programs in fitness, art, health, nutrition, and/or educational classes for adults and seniors.
* Experience distributing recreation equipment and tracking inventory.
* Experience using computer registration systems for participant registration.

* Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

* Working conditions are in both indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.
