Nature of Work

Minimum Special Hiring Rate:$36,533

This position involves providing direction and coordination of recreational activities and programs associated with the physical fitness and recreational education of all inmates. They are responsible for overseeing plans and schedules for inmates and recreation staff when the recreation director is absent. Schedules the use of the facilities indoor and outdoor areas along with the planning and arranging for supplies and services. Determines needs and proper care of the equipment. Other duties as assigned. This position requires one 12-hour shift per week in security.

* In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088)

* Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.

* If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college or university with at least eighteen (18) hours in health, physical education, recreation, arts or therapeutic recreation.

OR

Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the area of health, physical education, recreation, or arts may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year for every thirty (30) semester hours.

OR

Registration as an Activity Professional Certified (APC) by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.

Special Requirements:Must possess a valid driver's license.
