This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees' Association/ American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, schedules, implements and presents the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market and other City events. This includes monitoring the day to day operations to ensure smooth and efficient program delivery.
  • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships. Individual is responsible for numerous interactions with the public, community groups, City employees, volunteers, and staff. Exceptional customer service is required on a daily basis.
  • Represents the Parks & Recreation Department and acts as a liaison between Parks & Recreation Divisions, City Departments, including Fire, Police and Public Affairs.
  • Prepare and implement promotional plans. This includes creating press releases, event marketing descriptions, promotional postcards/flyers, website updates, social media marketing, etc. Individual works closely with local newspapers to promote programs.
  • Assist in the development of budget recommendations for assigned program areas. Manage assigned budgets without exceeding stipulated expenses. Meet revenue goals and keep thorough records of program budget.
  • Ensure events are operated in a safe and efficient manner. Develop traffic and security management plans.
  • Solicit and recruit volunteers for the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market and community events.
  • Leads and directs the work of part-time employees, vendors, contractors, volunteer organizations and volunteers. Including developing training program for volunteers.
  • Collaborate and maintain professional working relationships with event sponsors.
  • Prepare contracts, correspondence, grant applications and other written materials.
  • Maintain vendor applications and records, including current licensing and insurance.
  • Ensure program evaluations are conducted and results are reported. This includes suggesting alternative improvements to programs.
  • Evaluate needs and purchase necessary equipment and supplies.
Education and Experience Requirements Recreation Specialist I - Aquatics: $58,075 - $74,134 / Annually At least one year of event management experience and two years of higher education or certification in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Recreation Specialist II - Aquatics: $66,437 - $84,742 / Annually At least four years of event management experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader and have a passion for the community. Successful candidates will be organized and have the skill set to balance numerous tasks and responsibilities for multiple events at one time. It's also imperative that the recreation Specialist is an effective and collaborative communicator that is capable of creating positive professional relationships based on trust and accountability. This includes confidence interacting with the public. Addition skills and abilities required:
  • Calm and personable under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task and creatively problem solve.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience in Microsoft Works, Adobe, Excel, and Outlook. Some graphic design experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekend, evening and some holiday work scheduled shifts and to manage hours to not exceed a 40 hour work week.
  • Physical and other requirements: Job is very active. Must be comfortable walking and carrying/lifting up to 25 pounds of force.
